[REVIEW] Rock Chick Rescue (Rock Chick 02) by Kristen Ashley

Rock chick rescue (Rock chick 02)

Eddie and Jet

Synopsis:

Jet McAlister has a secret. Eddie Chavez has the hots for Jet (not to mention Eddie’s just plain hot). Jet has too many problems to realize that Eddie’s interested. Eddie loses patience when Jet ends her waitressing shift at a strip club with a knife at her throat. Since Eddie’s a cop, he figures he can help. Since Jet’s used to solving everyone’s problems she doesn’t want Eddie’s help.

Throw in a Dolly Parton look-alike, a gruff but lovable strip club owner, Jet’s ne’er do well father, his ne’er do well friend, Bear, Bear’s long-suffering, chain-smoking wife Lavonne and the crew from Rock Chick and you’ve got Rock Chick Rescue.

Rock Chick Rescue takes you on a wild ride with Jet, Eddie and the gang as they wrestle bad guys in a bagel shop, hit Denver’s backstreet poker tables (with big hair), and help the strippers at Smithie’s take down a would-be murderer.

Through this, Jet’s got to learn that even when life made you give up your dreams, you can still end up with the (hot) guy. Eddie’s got to rescue Jet from a bad man (so he can do better things with her) and teach her that some dreams can come true.

Mina says..

I will let Jet introduce herself in the first chapter (this saves me time and you know, Jet is soo COOL for me! Though, she thinks she’s not).

“Don’t get excited, I’m not cool and hip. My real name is Henrietta
Louise McAlister and that suits me a lot better than Jet. Dad was a
fan of Paul McCartney and Wings so he nicknamed me after the song.
I’m not a Jet in any way, shape or form. When someone notices me,
which is rarely, and I tel them my name, they look at me funny.
I’m five foot seven and I have ash blonde hair and hazel eyes.
Therefore, I’m an in-between girl; not tal , not short…
not blonde, not brunette… not green-eyed, not brown-eyed.
Just kinda not.”

Seriously, who’ll name their daughter Henrietta? Oh! Jet’s did.

Jet got her mother to take care of, her father bailed from them and her sister left the town. That makes Jet become a responsible daughter to her mother (who got stroke and now recovering). This leaves Jet have to have two jobs.. One being a cocktail waitress at a strip club (Smithie’s) and she’s a former teller. Yes, you heard it right, former!

And the story begins.. when Jet quit the Credit Union and have the job at Fortnum’s.

The minute Jet laid eyes on Eddie as he enters the bookstore; she fell in love with him. Ugh! Tell me, who’s not gonna fall for Eddie-freaking-Chavez?! A Mexican-American cop who’s hot as hell and he’s so flipping handsome it burns your eyes to look at him. (Jet’s words)

Jet had so much in her head, she didn't even have the mind to stop, take a glance in herself and think that she’s gorgeous and beautiful. Oh! And I will say, everyone around her thinks she’s that! And definitely and especially, Eddie-effing-Chavez!

I love the simple moves Eddie got. Ha! He’s really a man! Come on! You should agree with me! See..

Instead of just putting out a hand to steady me, both of his hands
came to my hips, low on my hips, fingers splayed wide so his
fingertips rested on my pelvic bones.

“Steady,” he said, his lips this close to my ear and a shiver went
through my body and I swear, I nearly dropped the box.

Here’s another one..

Eddie and Duke were standing across from me at the book counter so
that meant I was also engaged in ignoring Eddie.

Then, al of a sudden, Eddie’s hand came into my line of vision and,
just as sudden, his thumb swiped my upper lip.

My head jerked up and I stared at him, my lip tingling.
“Foam,” he said, dipping his head to indicate my cappuccino.

My face started burning, I stared down at my cappuccino and, get
this… when I looked back up, Eddie was again listening to Duke, for
all the world like I wasn't even there, but he put his thumb in his mouth to suck off my foam.

What was that?

Jet can’t wrap her mind to explain how attracted she is to Eddie so she said something stupid that led to misunderstanding. But, I should tell you, it was hilarious and damned if wasn't. Go figure!

Eddie is always curious with Jet, and how he found more of Jet is beyond Jet to know. She thought she’s just a quiet, simple and normal person which Eddie always begged to differ. How his eyes would light up every time he found things about Jet. –Oh, have I said that Jet thought he’s an island-woman? I mean, she thought she can do everything on her own. And help is not needed. Totally, she got Eddie’s attention!! Normal my ass!

“Chiquita, you’re a pain in the ass, but you aren't boring, you aren't
normal and you aren't average. That’s the point. It would be cute that
you don’t realize how fuckin’ pretty you are, except you get yourself
kissed and end up with your head in other guy’s laps. You bein’ shy
is sweet, but the attitude is better…”

And story gets more exciting when Jet’s dad came to town.. Oh! And I must say, Tex was soo happy about it.

“Thank Christ for you, Loopy Loo,” He boomed, handing me a
cappuccino. “Things were beginnin’ to get borin’
around here.” Then he went back behind the counter.

Dad’s caught up with bad people, Jet’s on the line. Eddie wasn’t happy about it so being a badass Alpha cop he’ll do what he can do to protect Jet. Go figure!

“..word goes out tonight that you
belong to me. Anyone fucks with you, they fuck with me, the DPD,
all the boys at Nightingale Investigations and Darius Tucker.
.I’m calling’ in all my markers. I’m not takin’ any more chances with this shit. Now you got an army of protection, whether you want it or not.”

Wohoo! I liked the people in this book Duke, Smithie, Daisy and Effing-Tex! The Nightingales and boys at Nightingale Investigation. Eddie’s mom and Jet’s mom. Lottie (Jet’s sister).

I loved the Eek Moments, The Chats and the actions (as always, this makes me excited all the time! Ha!)

Hmm let’s not forget my favorite scene, when Jet wanted was about to break things up with him yet it all turned out to admitting her feelings to Eddie.

“You like me, you don’t want to, but you do and this is total bullshit.”
“I don’t like you!” I yelled.
“You fucking well do!” he yelled back.
I gave a vicious yank and the tears burning my throat started to burn my eyes, I couldn’t swallow them down and they started flowing.
He caught me again and brought me back.
“Do I have to prove it to you?” His voice was back to quiet and it was far more scary then him shouting.
“I don’t like you.”
Another shake.
I pulled away again but stood in front of him and shouted, “I don’t like you! I love you. I’ve loved you since the minute I saw you. God!” I looked to the ceiling and swiped a hand across my face to wipe away the tears, “You’re a good guy, I could tell right off. You’re nice to your friends and they love you. You’re handsome and you stepped up for me, going all out to keep me safe and…and…” I faltered and then rallied, “you have a fancy truck!”
For a second he looked shocked, then the warmth came into his eyes and he reached out to me.”

This was great read! Solid 4**** stars! Read it and absolutely, you’ll be entertained by Indy, Ally, Jet and freaking Daisy! (Oh! I love this scene. Go figure!) Rock ‘n roll!

About the Author:

Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).
Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.
Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).
Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.
And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
